Description: Psychologist, stand-up comedian and author of the novel 'The Art of Impossibility', Bill Wahl presents "The great Psychological Themes in Fiction" an evening for lovers and writers. Description: The Macmillan CAB benefits team offers a free confidential welfare advice service to people living with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, their carers and relatives. This is a regular monthly session – ask in the library for more details.

Title: Paws for a Book

Description: Reading with the Dogs Helping Kids School Dogs. This scheme is designed to encourage children and teenagers to read. The Certified dogs are all highly trained to be safe and competent in a school or library environment, their owners have also been given thorough training. Dogs are amazing listeners and are an uncritical audience for struggling, or reluctant, readers. Description: It's not a race, it's not a test. Simply choose the books you like and when you have read them, chat to your local librarian about them. You are awarded a badge when you have read 10, 25, 50 and 75 books plus stickers at 40, 50 and 90 books. When you have finished your reading trail of 100 books you will get a special certificate and a gold badge!

Title: Book Start Bear Club

Description: Join the fun at your local library. Collect a Pawprint stamp each time you visit, collect 4 stamps to receive a certificate, 10 certificates to receive a gold sparkly award. for a limited period there are teddy bears and free books for children receiving their 10th certificate, children can choose either a bookstart bear or a free book while stocks last.
Audience:Children aged 0 - 5

Bookings: No booking involved just come in to the library and ask for a book crawl collecting card
 
Title: Help with Family and Local History Research
Date:Every day. Time available for individual help will vary according to other customers demand and staff commitments on the day.
Time: During normal Local Studies Centre opening hours (not the same as the main Library).
Description: We offer help with all aspects of family and local history using our own resources here at the Centre and online resources such as the Ancestry and '19th Century Newspapers' websites which are available FREE to Library members.
Audience:From beginner to expert although computer experience is desirable for online resources.
Cost: Free. Please note that this is free expert help and is not to be confused with other fee-charging family history events hosted at Barnstaple Library

Date:Every Wednesday and Friday during school term times.
Time: 10:30 - 11:00
Description: Bring your baby or toddler to our popular bounce and rhyme session. We sing songs and nursery rhymes, bounce and shout and generally have a great time!. the activities help develop confidence, co-ordination, listening and social skills in your child and a re a great chance to give them some fun exercise.
