What Devon is doing to combat domestic violence and abuse

Agencies in Devon:

In Devon, all agencies are committed to tackling domestic violence and abuse, working in partnership with statutory, voluntary, community organisations and individuals.

The partnership in Devon co-ordinating its strategic direction is adva – against domestic violence and abuse. Those agencies involved in adva’s work and aims can be found within Supporting Agencies in Devon.

Specialist support services, funded by the adva partnership, commissioned by Devon County Council, can be found within Specialist support services in Devon.

Devon’s aims are to:

  • Increase the safety of those affected by domestic violence and abuse
  • Promote the health and wellbeing of all those affected by domestic violence and abuse
  • Empower children and young people tackle domestic violence and abuse so they live lives free of violence.

Devon has agreed that domestic abuse is defined as:

“any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between partners (16 years and over) who are or have been in an intimate relationship or between adult family members (18 years and over), regardless of gender and sexuality.

Family members are defined as mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister and grandparents, whether directly related, in-laws, common-law or step family”.
