The Independent Living Centre is based in Newton Abbot, where our NHS and Devon County Council funded service help people from all over Devon to find solutions to maintain independence and safety in the home.
Our premises in Devon House, Newton Abbot, is ideally located for visitors from all over the county to come and try our our display of equipment.
The Occupational Therapists have planned a series of advice and assessment "Outreach" events at Mobility Shops all over Devon in 2013.

The Independent Living Centre (ILC) offers a free and impartial assessment and information service to anyone in Devon who is looking for equipment to enhance their independence. The Centre does not sell equipment but has a large range of equipment on display for you to try. Our range covers all aspects of life including; mobility, personal care, clothing, bathing, cooking, seating and beds.

You can telephone, email or write to make an appointment for an assessment at the Centre from Monday to Friday or call in on a Wednesday morning for a look around.
We can help to identify the right equipment for you, tell you how much it should cost and can look into grants or other sources of funding when purchasing equipment. We keep up to date information on equipment from all local and national suppliers.
Our occupational therapists can assess your needs and demonstrate a large range of equipment for daily living and mobility, displayed in realistic settings, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room.

STABILO is a system of stabilizing cushions with many applications, from the promotion of a correct sitting position, through rehabilitation, to support in care. Through appropriate modeling of shape, STABILO cushions provide correct support for the hips and spine. STABILO cushions may be shaped like pla-sticine and if required, the shape can be preserved in a precise imprint.
The preserved shape of various types of STABILO supports in exceptionally good at stabilizing patients with CP, Scoliosis, Kyphosis etc. A suitably modeled mattress also helps to stabilize and correct posture while lying down. It provides excellent results in cases of high muscle tension . The shape can be modeled and preserved many times thanks to the use of vacuum techniques. One of the STABILO's important properties is that it is possible to obtain different levels of hardness.

On display we have a selection of cups and beakers, plates, cutlery and various other aids to help in the kitchen

The BT 4500 Big Button Telephone is a practical solution designed to aid sight, hearing and dexterity impaired people. It features large, responsive buttons to make dialling, a large 1.8" full graphic display to make reading the screen easy and has been tested to provide clearer sound. It is also compatible with hearing aids, so you'll be able to comfortably hear calls through your hearing aid.
Call Control allows you to choose which calls you answer and which calls are sent straight to the answer machine. For example, you can block all International and Withheld numbers, cutting out a large proportion of unwanted sales calls. You can also block up to 10 specific numbers to stop any particular nuisances from contacting you too.
A 'Do not disturb' function prevents your phone from ringing or lighting up in times when you need some peace and quiet.
Visual Voicemail will give you a list of who's called you and allow you to choose which voicemail message you want to listen to first, so you can prioritise the most important messages. A hands-free speaker mean you can share a conversation with other people in the room or use your hands for something else as you talk.

handSteady Cup with rotatable handle is designed to help people affected by tremor, joint and muscle pain or stiffness, muscle weakness, slow movement, swallowing difficulties, limited dexterity.It stays upright, tllts easily and keeps steady. It has a hidden lid and anti slip base.
These stylish suspended bath seats can be used at three different heights to suit a variety of needs. They can be used as a bath seat when set at the two lower height options or as a bath board on the uppermost option. Ergonomically designed for comfort and safety, the bath seats can be adjusted in width by up to 70mm (2 ¾ ½) to adapt to different sizes of bath tubs.
Available with a backrest, which should be used with the seat in the lowest position to provide optimum support for the user.
Rollz Motion (Rollator and Wheelchair in one). is ergonomically designed with a strong but lightweight frame which enables you to walk steadily, upright and comfortably and if you want to rest along the way, the Rollz Motion converts into a wheelchair. Maximum user weight 125kg
Careflex Smart Seat -The SmartSeat is the revolutionary new specialist seating design from CareFlex. It is designed for clients who require a combination of comfort, pressure management and specific support and positioning for posture control. This chair can be used in single or multi-user environments due to it's adjustability and range of complementary accessories.
