ILC Innovation Exhibition -

The Independent Living Centre is based in Newton Abbot, where our NHS and Devon County Council funded service help people from all over Devon to find solutions to maintain independence and safety in the home.
Our premises in Devon House, Newton Abbot, is ideally located for visitors from all over the county to come and try our our display of equipment.
The Occupational Therapists have planned a series of advice and assessment "Outreach" events at Mobility Shops all over Devon in 2013.

The Independent Living Centre (ILC) offers a free and impartial assessment and information service to anyone in Devon who is looking for equipment to enhance their independence. The Centre does not sell equipment but has a large range of equipment on display for you to try. Our range covers all aspects of life including; mobility, personal care, clothing, bathing, cooking, seating and beds.

You can telephone, email or write to make an appointment for an assessment at the Centre from Monday to Friday or call in on a Wednesday morning for a look around.
We can help to identify the right equipment for you, tell you how much it should cost and can look into grants or other sources of funding when purchasing equipment. We keep up to date information on equipment from all local and national suppliers.
Our occupational therapists can assess your needs and demonstrate a large range of equipment for daily living and mobility, displayed in realistic settings, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room.

The SturdyStraw is an innovative hands free bendable drinking straw which can be fixed onto a worktop, tables, wheelchairs and can be shaped and fixed into any position for drinking
The BT 4500 Big Button Telephone has large, responsive buttons, a large graphic display to make reading the screen easy and has been tested to provide clearer sound. It is also compatible with hearing aids, so you will be able to comfortably hear calls through your hearing aid. The range of phones are set up in the centre so that you can try and make calls to test the amplification and ease of use
This sheet has a central panel of smooth, soft, shiny satin to aid sliding and has a special grip fabric sides for secure sitting on edge of the bed and at the foot end, for feet to push against to assist turning in bed.We also have the Easy Turn fitted sheet; the top 3/4 of this sheet is smooth satin and the bottom 1/4 is made of a special grip fabric for feet to push against to assist turning in bed
Rollz Motion (Rollator and Wheelchair in one). This is the latest design of wheelchair/walker with a comfortable wheelchair seat that can be folded away to transform it into a supportive walker. It folds sideways too so is easy to stow away.
