Food & Drink

Devon County Council is passionate about making Devon England’s greenest county. Supporting Devon’s food and drink sector is key to this, because buying local food:
  • Protects the environment (by reducing the distance your food travels)
  • Strengthens Devon’s economy
  • Protects Devon’s landscapes
  • Supports rural communities and
  • Sustains Devon’s exceptional and unique products

Agriculture

Agriculture is still a dominant sector in Devon, with a workforce of approximately 25,000 and 11,000 farm holdings. A sustainable and viable agricultural sector is essential for the preservation of the landscape as well as rural communities and associated services.

A comprehensive range of initiatives is in place across the County to support this aim, ranging from local food projects to research activities.
