Term dates

The Local Authority is required to set school term dates for all Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools and recommends these dates for adoption by Governors of Foundation, Voluntary Aided, Trust maintained schools and Academies.  It is hoped that for consistency across all schools that Academies will conform with the recommended term dates.

Term dates are set after consultation with all Devon maintained schools and representatives from union associations. Consideration is given to the 'standard school year' recommended by the Local Government Association and the desire to secure common main holidays with neighbouring authorities.

Non-pupil dates and opening times

All maintained schools are required to open for 190 days on which pupils are present during each academic year. Devon Local Authority identifies 197 school days and from this, schools are able to choose 2 occasional days and 5 training days.  While information is given below on the non-pupil dates and the start and finish times for individual schools and academies in Devon, it is advisable to contact the individual school to confirm their dates.
