Professional Capabilities Framework

The Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) was developed by the Social Work Reform Board (SWRB). It serves as a backdrop to both initial social work education, and continuing professional development after qualification. If you are a social worker you need to familiarise yourself with the framework. For more information visit The College of Social Work

Health & Care Professions Council

Social workers in England joined the Health and Care Professions Council on Wednesday 1 August 2012. All registered social workers must renew their registrations with the HCPC, for more information visit HCPC.

The PCF describes the capabilities required of social workers at all stages of their career. The Standards of Proficiency, which are set by the HCPC, are what a social worker must know, understand and be able to do when they start practising for the first time.
