The information on this web page is intended to assist schools in the planning of future numbers, by giving information about the NOR, numbers living in designated area and providing access to a forecast module to see how numbers may develop.
Pupil numbers in Devon have been reducing as a result of falling births. The fall in numbers has been steady for most primary schools, with urban areas seeing a much smaller reduction, mainly due to the level of house building taking place there. In some rural areas the reduction in pupil numbers may have been as great as 20% by 2008 when the decline can be expected to stabalise for most schools. In many urban areas primary school admission levels are starting to rise, with several schools having to have additional accommodation.
At secondary level, pupil numbers peaked in 2006 and now reducing in most areas.
Future determination of patterns of schools will have regard to the County Council's Community Strategy and Strategic Plan, and the Children and Young People's Plan 2008-2011 when finalised. Meanwhile, the Vision for Learning sets out some principles regarding the dvelopment of schools and learning outcomes.
