Catullus, Tibullus, Propertius
Collected Love Poems of Three Roman Poets, 1502
Printed in Venice in 1502, this book of Roman love poems is the second oldest book in Exeter Library’s Special Collections Archive. The poetry of Catullus, Tibullus and Propertius was compiled and published by Aldo Manutius, the ‘father of modern printing’, it does however have a typographical error on the title page, misspelling Propertius as Propetius.
Many of the poems are written about or dedicated to the lovers of the poets and are often full of a tenderness that was rarely expressed at this time. The book’s leather cover and beautiful decoration has deteriorated in the many years since it was produced; by adopting this title you will be able to ensure that their love endures for many years to come.
