Age raging - the debate around age guidance on children's books
Children’s books are back in the headlines with the current debate about the inclusion of age guidance on the back of books. Find out more here.
Boys Into Books
Boys into Books is funded by the DCSF to underpin reading for purpose and pleasure and to celebrate the National Year of Reading with extra resources for your school library.
The boxes of books will be delivered in late September, not during the summer term as originally planned. This is because our book suppliers cannot meet the deadlines for delivery, because the publishers haven’t printed sufficient copies of titles on the prescribed list!
Every Primary and Special school will receive a collection of at least 25 books, specially chosen by SLS staff to appeal to lads (but girls will enjoy them too!) You don’t have to do anything except enjoy sharing the books.
DON’T FORGET!!
Devon SLS librarians are happy to come to schools to promote reading to children and parents – check out our website for more information www.devonsls.org.uk

Free books into schools - Reception and Year 7
Some two million books are to be given away by Christmas with the extension of the Booktime programme for reception-aged pupils and the Booked Up programme for Year 7 pupils. Some £4m has been given by the DSCF to fund the free books and the programme is managed by Booktrust.
This is a terrific free scheme and well worth getting involved in.
