The Victorian era returns to Exmouth Museum and Library this month when the life of children in the 19^th century is recalled as part of October's Family Learning Festival.

'Seen and not heard: the Victorian child's experience' starts at the library on 20^th October with a display of Victorian children's classics from the Moon collection of early children's books loaned by Exeter Library. As well as the 19^th century editions on display, modern editions and reprints of some of them will be available for people to borrow.

The display runs from 20^th October until 1^st November. There will also be Victorian theme story times and activities during the half-term week of 27^th to 31^st October.

Exmouth Museum is also staging special events with a Victorian flavour during half-term. Children can experience a Victorian schoolroom and try on school clothes such as pinafores for girls and Eton and sailor collars for boys. They can also use slates, find out about school punishments and hear the swish of the cane. There is also information about sea bathing and the weekly bath in front of the Victorian range.

Entry to the special sessions at the Museum is free. They will take place on Monday 27^th, Wednesday 29^th and Friday 31^st October between 10.30am and noon.
