Greener Taste of Devon exhibition

From Adrian Lane, Exeter 383262, August 13, 2008

DEVON County Council is bringing together food and drink producers, local hospitality businesses and environmental experts from across the county for a free trade exhibition.

A Greener Taste of Devon is being hosted by the County Council at RHS Garden Rosemoor in Great Torrington from 11am to 4pm on Wednesday 10 September, and there is still time for local businesses to register as exhibitors.

The exhibition is a showcase for producers to find new markets for their food and drink, and for hoteliers, BBs, restaurants and shops to source more Devon produce for their visitors. The event is also a chance for companies to share green solutions and purchasing eco-friendly products and services.

Councillor Humphrey Temperley, Devon County Council Executive Member for Strategic Planning, Regional and International Affairs, said: "The exhibition is an ideal networking opportunity for food and drink businesses in Devon, which are vital to our economy. The county has a wide variety of produce which attracts visitors who want to sample local food and drink during their stay, so it is important that Devon businesses work together and learn from each other."

Councillor Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council Executive Member for Environment, said: "People are increasingly interested in the quality of food, how it is grown and how environmentally friendly it is in terms of packaging and waste. Locally produced food and drink are also sought more and more by people wishing to see a reduction in food miles. This trade exhibition addresses all of those issues and it could enable more firms in the county to share their experience to help make Devon even greener."

Exhibitors already confirmed to attend range from the Devon Cider Company, Hallwood Fresh Veg and Roly's Fudge to Renewable Energy 4 Devon, Devon Composting Network and South West Water.

For an exhibitors pack or to reserve tickets please call 01392 383428 or 01392 382176. Alternatively, email paul.baker@devon.gov.uk or rachel.mildon@devon.gov.uk by Monday 25 August.
