Allocations of funding from the proceeds of the sale of Exeter Airport have now come to an end, it was announced today by Devon County Council.
Many projects and organisations from all over the county have benefited from the £48million raised by the sale of Exeter Airport and almost all the money has now been allocated.
"The airport sale was excellent news for the county" said Councillor Brian Greenslade, Leader of Devon County Council, "and the proceeds have made a huge difference to thousands of people.
"But this money is now coming to an end and we need to consolidate and consider the last few applications before bringing the scheme to its natural conclusion.
"This has been a success story for the people of Devon, who have supported Exeter Airport through their Council Tax in the past, and it has been good to see so many people benefiting from the sale."
The £48 million was divided into funds all targeting areas of improvement and has included funding towards the Lynton and Lynmouth Hydro-Electrical scheme which will use water from the River Lyn to generate electricity. Other successful bids have included £100,000 towards the redevelopment of Matthew Hall in Topsham and £2.5 million for a new sports hall at Teignmouth Community College.
Smaller projects were also supported with each councillor having £25,000 to allocate to projects in their area. Around £927,000 is still available in this fund for local county councillors to allocate.
