Transport Planning

A county for everyone. A job just for you.

An area of true variety, Devon is home to 750,000 people, all relying on what has become one of the UK’s biggest transport networks.  We are the third largest authority in the country, with 12,800 km of roads, 4,960 km of public rights of way and 3,500 bridges alone. Therefore, as a planning professional, Devon is the perfect place to get your career moving.

In strategically planning and managing new developments, you will get the people that live, work and visit Devon on the move. You will also shape and enhance our beautiful surroundings, providing positive outcomes for the environment, economy and congestion. Our Local Transport Plan (2006 to 2011) is in place to meet everyone’s needs, while making roads safer and providing greener alternatives to the car.

We know these crucial public services can only be provided by skilled and dedicated people. So through every step of your career journey, you will enjoy professional and personal development, along with vast opportunities to progress.

We have many exciting future projects, which vary in scale, scope and location. From major improvements in Exeter (the thriving and cosmopolitan, commercial centre of Devon) to town planning in Barnstaple (to dramatically reduce the conflict of cars, buses, pedestrians and cyclists) to exciting, new challenges in Tavistock and Newton Abbot.
