1815 February. - A brig appearing in sight standing for the Bar, seven pilots immediately launched a long-boat to go and pilot her into the harbour. On approaching near the Bar, a heavy sea struck the boat and upset it. Some men on the Beacon saw the accident and gave the alarm. A boat was manned, and in less than fifty minutes pulled out and succeeded in saving four out of the seven men. The other three were drowned, whose names were Charles Perriam, William Perry, and Michael Hooper, each of them leaving a widow and large family.
