Old-fashioned, tumble-down cottages, a greenish moss-covered mill that seemed past work, betokened the vicinity of an inhabited district. The old mill, likewise, was a silent hint to look out for water: and soon the shy and beautiful stream, clothed with verdure to its very brink, was seen at intervals, sparkling in the sunbeam, and brawling over the stones that obstructed its path.
