ANON. A New Guide to Knowle Cottage, the Villa of T.L.Fish, Esq. Sidmouth: Ripon. 1840. p 3-5 A GUIDE THE following unpretending pages are compiled, and profess to be simply for the use of visitors, a Guide to Knowle Cottage The excessive liberality of T. L. FISH ESQ. is universally acknowledged, by his weekly permission for the public to view the superb collection within, and without its walls; and the annually increasing number of persons who resort to Sidmouth, during his residence in the Summer, (from JULY to OCTOBER,) is the most incontestible proof of the benefits derived by, and the obligation due from its inhabitants. THE hours of admission are from two till four o'clock, and it is particularly requested that no person will remain upon any part of the premises later than half an hour after. The nearest way to the Cottage, is to proceed from the Market-place up Church-street pass Fort House, and Cobourg Terrace, which leads to the pebble lodge of Rosemount, where turn to the right, and pursue a straight path: but to such as have time to spare, and would enjoy a pleasant walk, we recommend a more circuitous route, by first admiring the picturesque scenery, and the fine majestic cliffs east and west from York Terrace. Proceeding westward up the Esplanade, you arrive at The Fort Field, where pass the Cricket Ground, and Fort Terrace on the left, pursue the beaten path straight through the opposite field, which leads to Cotmaton House, MR. CARSLAKE'S, where turn to the right, and skirt the garden wall of Woodlands, S. NEWDICK ESQ, till you arrive at the cross way, where the left hand road leads to the point of attraction, the first entrance gate.
