White, William. History, gazetteer, and directory of Devonshire. Sheffield: William White, 1850. pp. 139-140. A new and most convenient bridge has been erected across the Teign, from Teignmouth to Shaldon; it was commenced in September 1825, and opened in June 1827. This bridge is considered the longest in the kingdom, the entire bridge being 1671 feet long. Stone abutment walls of great length support the ends, but the bridge itself is constructed of iron and wood: it consists of thirty-four arches, independently of a swing bridge which opens to admit the passage of large vessels into the harbour.
