Devon Libraries Local Studies Service: Date search page

The date search will find works about particular period or works published in particular years. If you are uncertain of the precise date, you can type in the first figures followed by *. The results for the date coverage search will only be partial as not all records have information on this. There are also separate search pages for authors and titles, subjects, places, images and maps.

Entering terms into more than one box will cut down the number of items you find.

Date coverage		Truncation can be helpful here (e.g. 15* for items about the 16th century)
Period keyword		A useful additional way of searching. E.g. Tudor, Stuart, Victorian, century 18th or eighteenth
Publication date		E.g. 1945. 194* will retrieve all items produced in the 1940s and 17* all items in the 18th century.

Please note: All items in the collections listed are for reference only. It is regretted that research cannot be carried out by staff on behalf of enquirers. A professional record searching service is available through the Devon Record Office. Some of the listings include material in collections that are only partly sorted, remotely stored or require special viewing facilities. We therefore strongly advise that you contact us before travelling long distances to consult material.
