Caricatured Hogarth. Introduced aquatint into England and developed the techniques of topographical art. Travelled widely in the British Isles and seems to have visited Devon in about 1780. After return from Manchester where he was Hon. Sec. of the Manchester Academy of Arts, he turned his attention to portraits and large-scale engravings for the print publishers.
