Born: 1808 Enfield, Middlesex, son of Frederick Christian, engraver. Died:1880, Felpham, Sussex. Pupil of his father. Used combined techniques of line, stipple and mezzotint on same plate. Best known for numerous engravings after Edwin Landseer but also engraved after Rosa Bonheur, the French animal painter (1822-1899), Briton Riviere and others. Died: 18 Dec 1856, Enfield. Although not a Devonian, he executed many etchings of Devon rivers and other scenes. Prolific engraver of bookplates. Four fold out natural history plates in The preceptor: a general course of education wherein the first principles of polite learning are laid down in a way most suitable for trying the genius and advancing the instruction of youth (London: J.
