On the County Series Ordnance Survey mapping the area is to be found on 1:2,500 sheet 115/3 Six inch (1:10560) sheet 115NE Extract from Devon by W.G.Hoskins (1954), included by kind permission of the copyright holder: ABBOTSKERSWELL was held by the abbot of Horton in Dorset in 1086. The church (St. Mary) is mainly 15th century with some remains of 13th century work in the chancel. Font and screen are 15th century. The screen, much restored but very good, has a beautiful vine leaf enrichment of the cornice and excellent tracery. The attractive medieval statue of the Virgin Mary was found at the restoration of the church by Butterfield. The 16th century Church House is a good example of its kind. | |
