As part of its duty of care to road users, Devon County Council works in partnership with various organisations to provide advice and re-training to drivers and riders who have committed certain types of driving offence. In such instances, re-training is available either as an alternative to prosecution or as a means of reducing the length of a disqualification.

Drink Drive Awareness Course

The course is designed to raise awareness of the dangers of mixing drinking with driving. Referred participants can gain up to 25% off their term of disqualification.

National Driver Improvement Scheme

Offered by the Police to drivers or riders as an alternative to prosecution for careless driving offences.

Rider Risk Reduction Course

A classroom based course aimed at motorcycle riders who have been stopped by the Police for committing a violation which would normally lead to prosecution.

Speed Awareness Scheme

Offered as an alternative to the Fixed Penalty process to drivers and riders captured speeding by safety cameras.
