Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) for Works
This information does not apply for restrictions in Plymouth, Torbay, for restrictions on Public Rights of Way and for Special Events.

Who can apply?
Anyone can apply for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) for works because:
- the works are to be carried out on or near the road;
- of the likelihood of danger to the public,
- of serious damage to the road that needs repairing.
How much notice is needed?
For Planned work - A minimum of 3 months notice is required to introduce a temporary traffic order.
For Emergencies - There will be occasions when a road needs to be closed with little or no notice by the Police or Highway Authority.
In the event of an emergency closure due to a burst water or gas main it is essential that the Devon County Council’s Highway Operations Control Centre is notified immediately on 01392 383329
How much will it cost?
- Closure/Restrictions by Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) - All Planned Works - £700*
- Closure/Restrictions by Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice (TTRN) - Emergencies - £200
- Extension to a TTRO (up to a maximum of 18 months) - £200
- Deferred start date (where an order has been processed already and advertised and has to be re-advertised) - £350
- *If you wish to cancel a TTRO before it has been advertised the fee will be lowered to £200
If you require No Waiting cones there may be additional costs.
