Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) for Public Rights of Way
This information does not apply for restrictions in Plymouth, Torbay, for works on the highway and for Special Events,
Who can apply?
Anyone can apply for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) for works because:
- the works are to be carried out on or near the public right of way or bridleway;
- of the likelihood of danger to the public,
- of serious damage to the public right of way or bridleway that needs repairing.
How much notice is needed?
For Planned work - A minimum of 3 months notice is required to introduce a temporary traffic order.
For Emergencies – There will be occasions when a road needs to be closed with little or no notice by the Police or Highway Authority.
In the event of an emergency closure due to a burst water or gas main it is essential that the Devon County Council’s Highway Operations Control Centre is notified immediately on 01392 383329
How much will it cost?
- for planned works - a temporary traffic order costs £700 and can apply for up to 18 months
- for emergency works - a temporary traffic notice costs £200
- other charges may apply - see guidance notes for more details
