Road Licences
Deposit or store material on the highway
Building materials can only be deposited on the highway in certain circumstances and after a licence has been granted to do so by Devon County Council.
Conditions that must be met before a licence is issued include:
- Not impeding the drainage of surface water,
- No material is deposted in such a way as to cause an obstruction or hazard,
- Inflammable, dangerous or noxious material is not allowed to be deposited,
- All material deposited must be cleared away as soon as possible and the site left clean and tidy.
A minimum of 28 days notice is required when applying for a licence.
Materials that are deposited on the highway without a licence may be removed by the County Council and reasonable costs of removal may be recovered from the persons responsible. The persons responsible may also be liable for prosecution in the Magistrates' Court.
