Child In Car Safety

Child In-Car Safety Training

child car seats image

We organise special training days for midwives, health visitors and care professionals in the private and public sector.

If you are in a position where you are directly involved in the transportation of children, or have a support role for new mums and families, you need to be aware of child in car safety and some of the basic issues surrounding the safe use and fitting of child seats and restraints.

Duration & Method

The training day includes both theory and practical sessions, enabling you to put the theory into practise by trying out our extensive range of car seats in vehicles - and encounter first hand fitting problems.

Applicants

The session is aimed at professionals working with parents-to-be, young families and those who regularly transport children in their vehicles.

Outcomes

Attending this session will help to ensure that advice you give to the public is consistent and up-to-date, and takes into account the latest technological advances and the opinions of industry experts.

Outline Programme

The following topics will be dealt with:

  • Summary of the law
  • Why children need to be correctly restrained
  • Car seat types
  • Second hand car seats
  • Key factors of weight and height
  • Fitting guidelines
  • Premature and low birth weight babies
  • Unsecured items

If you are interested in this training, or you think your colleagues and employer may be interested, you can find out more about scheduled courses and booking arrangements from the Devon Road Safety Helpdesk.  Email us at rshelp@devon.gov.uk or telephone / fax us on 01392 426124.
