The 'Life in the Bus Lane' transport project ran from 2000 to 2004 and took place in North Devon, involving students from North Devon College and the Sixth Forms of Bideford Community College and Ilfracombe Community College.

The project improved bus services locally, part purchased eight new buses with First Devon & Cornwall, subsidised student transport fees, and introduced smartcard technology on the buses. The project was very successful and won national recognition.

Since the project ended, the 'Life in the Bus Lane' smartcard has been replaced by the 'Devon Smartrider Student' card
