Membership requirements
Applicants for membership will be expected to fulfil some of the following criteria. (Please note that no formal qualifications are required.)
Knowledge
- Appreciation of issues affecting access to the countryside and/or water and the relationship with land/water management and conservation
- Understanding of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act
- Understanding of legislative processes and committee structures
Skills
- A willingness to listen to and respect other points of view
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with a team
- An enthusiasm to discuss wide-ranging issues and participate in debate
- A desire to achieve consensus and find agreed solutions
- Ability to represent the views of a particular interest group(s) and to network accordingly
Experience
- Previous committee work/experience
- Experience of using public rights of way or access land
- or experience of land management or ownership
- or experience of other fields of interest, such as disability issues, outdoor recreation, conservation, tourism or business
- or experience of issues affecting young people or black and minority ethnic groups or other under-represented groups
Other requirements
- Prepared to attend four meetings a year plus occasional training days or Working Group meetings
- Prepared to serve for a period of three years
- Prepared to respond to some business between meetings, via e-mail, post or telephone
- Committed to furthering access improvements to land and water within Devon
- Committed to equal opportunities
