Definitive Map Review

Colebrooke

The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 requires the County Council to keep the Definitive Map of public rights of way under continuous review and to make modifications where it appears that routes should be added, amended or deleted.

A review of the Definitive Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way is currently in progress in the parish and a consultation map was published in 2007 showing the existing recorded public rights of way and detailing 12 suggestions to modify the Definitive Map of Public Rights of Way in the parish of Colebrooke.

Reports on Suggestion 3 – Church footpath, Suggestion 4 – Byway to Cemetery and Suggestion 5 – Footpath from Waterleat Cottages to Footpath No. 19 Colebrooke were considered at the Public rights of Way Committee Meeting on 13th November 2007.

Reports on Suggestion 1 – Butsford Lane (addition of a restricted byway), Suggestion 8 – Great & Lower Wotton Lanes (addition of a restricted byway) and Suggestion 10 – Lower Coombe to Buttisfar Farm, Coleford (addition of public footpath) were considered at the PROW Committee meeting on 4th March 2008.

A report on Suggestion 7 – Upgrading Footpath No. 19 to a public bridleway was considered at the committee meeting on 10th June 2008.

A report on the last suggestion to be reported to the committee, Suggestion 6 – addition of a public bridleway from Penstone along Lower Coombe Lane to the Coleford/Crediton road was considered at the committee meeting on 10th November 2008.

Definitive Map Modifications Orders were published on the 5th September 2008 for Footpath No. 20, Colebrooke – suggestion 3 Church Footpath Byway Open to all Traffic No. 21, Colebrooke – suggestion 4 Byway to cemetery and Restricted Byway no. 22, Colebrooke – suggestion 8 Great & Lower Wotton Lanes.

No objections were received to the Orders in respect of Footpath No. 20, Colebrooke and Byway Open to all Traffic No. 21, Colebrooke and the Notice of Confirmation for these two Orders is being published on the 28th November 2008.
