Why is it good to walk to school?
Every year there are two weeks, one in May and one in October, when children are encouraged to make an extra effort to walk to school. Walk to School Week is a national campaign managed by Pedestrians Association and TravelWise.

Walking the Way to Health
Walking the Way to Health is a joint initiative of the British Heart Foundation and Countryside Agency. It started in England in 2000 and aims to get more people, particularly those who currently take little or no exercise, walking in their own communities. Local projects, often partnerships between District Councils and Primary Care Trusts, have received matched funding to enable them to set up a series of 'Led Walks'. This involves trained volunteer walk leaders taking groups of people on short walks of 1.5 - 3 miles. Visit the "Walking the way to Health" Initiative web site for further information.
