We were honoured to have Dr. Norman Croucher OBE to launch the Cycle Sunday charity bike rides.

Our week of events included:

  • Give Cyclists Space! TravelWise launched a county wide campaign, advertised on 40 buses, to urge motorists to be considerate to cyclists. (As seen here with keen cyclist Phil Norrey, Devon County Council's Chief Executive & Zsolt Schuller, Cycle Exeter Project Manager.)

Give Cyclists Space

  • Bike for your Butty - Gemini FM worked with us each day to reward commuter cyclists with a free breakfast! Over 200 breakfast butties were claimed by cyclists in the High Street, Marsh Barton, Sowton, Pynes Hill and the Quayside! Yum yum!
  • Cycle Exeter Roadshow - The Cycle Exeter Team held information stands in the centre of Exeter, the Environment Agency, the Met Office, Middlemoor Police Headquarters and the RD&E Hospital.
  • Dr Bike Clinics - Staff at the following businesses benefitted from free bike checks, run by local bike shops: Rural Payments Agency, Sowton Transport Management Association, South West Tourism, Environment Agency, Met Office, Middlemoor Police HQ & the Hospital.
  • Free Bike Hire all week! Nearly 100 people took advantage of our special Bike Week offer of free bike hire from Saddles & Paddles. Let's hope they try cycling again sometime soon! See www.sadpad.com for more information on bike hire.

The rain did not dampen spirits at our big Bike Week finale at Exeter's quayside! 130 people took part in the charity bike rides, raising £390 for Force Cancer Charity and Exeter Cathedral. As well as the rides, hundreds of cyclists and non-cyclists alike enjoyed visiting the many stalls; collecting information (on Cycle Exeter, the CTC, Haldon Forest and Sustrans), getting their bikes fixed by the Dr Bike's or security tagged by the police, having a go on a Segway, joining in the steam dipping with Exeter Wildlife Watch, trying out the wacky bikes in the Cycle Circus, watching the amazing trials and unicycle displays, and whizzing around in the Lili-peds rickshaw!
