| CSA | Clinical Spine Application. Consists of basic demographic data (PDS) and summary clinical information (e.g. prescription data) |
| CRS | Care Record Service (see also NCRS) |
| LSD | Local Support Desk (first port of call for DCC) |
| NCRS | National Care Record Service |
| NHS Direct | Telephone helpline/website providing 24 hour nurse advice and health information service. |
| NICE | National Institute for Clinical Excellence part of the NHS. It produces guidance for both the NHS and patients on the use of medicines, medical equipment, clinical and surgical procedures (eg treating and managing schizophrenia; using ECT), and under what circumstances they should be used. NICE spends several months looking at how well the medicine, equipment or procedure works, before producing its report. Each guidance produced includes a 'patient leaflet' section. |
| NSD | National Support Desk |
| NSF | National Service Framework Published by the Dept of Health in 1999, there are NSFs for different areas of health care eg. Older People, Mental Health, Children and Diabetes. It sets out standards for improving care and gives guidelines for what good services should deliver. It sets out a 10 year strategy for improving services. |

| PDEE | Advanced tracing tool (allowing trace by e.g. postcode) |
| PDS | Patient Demographic System (loaded from NSTS data in 2004. Part of the CRS) |
| PKI | Public Key Infrastructure (ensure users are setup as trusted e-mail users) |

| RBAC | Role Based Access Control (used on NHS Smartcards to ensure correct access to NHS systems) |
