16 December 2008 - Devon County Council has agreed to enter new negotiations with Shaw Healthcare to undertake a smaller scale, single phase development programme of up to 190 residential and nursing care beds.  At the same time, the Council will require Shaw to demonstrate better value for money for their proposal to develop extra care housing.

Negotiations with preferred bidders Shaw Healthcare, to develop the Council's residential homes are continuing, but the plans are being revised to include other potential development partners. Residents, their families and carers have been reassured by letter image - PDF icon (6KB - pdf help) that for the time being services they currently receive will remain unchanged.

Other organisations will be invited to submit proposals for development of the Council’s other residential homes for older people in a new tendering process which will follow further extensive community consultation work in the new year.  

A Task Group of the Council’s Health Overview/Scrutiny Committee is looking into the proposed externalisation of the Council’s residential homes.  There will be further discussion of the proposal with Health Overview/Scrutiny Committee before the proposals are considered again by the Executive on the 13 January.

10 December 2008 - Devon County Council are continuing to have detailed negotiations with Shaw Healthcare, our preferred provider for the transfer of residential homes for older people.  The current economic climate has affected these negotiations and a progress report will be presented to DCC's executive on Thursday 16 December.
