Older People's Residential Care Externalisation

Transferring ownership of our residential homes

What about residents?

As part of the transfer of the homes we will establish specific contracts for care for each resident in their existing homes. Our aim is to minimise disruption and to maintain the care and support provided.

And the impact on staff?

We are aiming for staff to be employed by the new owner under ‘TUPE’ (Transfer of Undertakings - Protection of Employment) arrangements which protect their employment and pension rights.

What consultation was undertaken?

Last year we set up three locality focus groups with a cross-section of interested parties, with whom we shared the challenges we are facing. Those groups then elected a countywide focus group who looked in-detail at the way in which we could tender the homes. The work of that group has helped inform the way in which we are going to the market.

We have kept staff, residents, carers and other stakeholders informed of this process in writing, at local meetings and via briefings by local managers. We are committed to maintaining this communication throughout the process.
