Additional Learning Support

What is Additional Learning Support?

Devon Adult & Community Learning receives an allocation of funds to help learners who have additional learning support needs.  Additional Learning Support is defined by the Skills Funding Agency as,

‘Any activity that provides direct support for learning to individual learners, over and above that which is normally provided in a standard learning programme that leads to their learning goal.’

Who can apply for Additional Learning Support?

ALS is available to learners who have been assessed by Learning Support Coordinators as having additional needs. Any learner with special/additional needs can apply, such as;

·learners who have a physical disability, e.g. partially sighted, hearing impaired, mobility difficulties

·learners with dyslexia, dyscalculia

·learners who have learning difficulties

·learners with mental health problems

Additional Learning Support Funds can only be allocated where the cost of the support is £170 or more for part-time learners and £501 for full time learners.

ALS for dyslexia is not available for learners taking literacy classes

How to Apply for Additional Learning Support

If you have a learning difficulty, special language requirements or a disability please contact your local centre, or advise MyDevon, who will arrange for you to speak to one of our Learning Support Co-ordinators. Access to the funds needs to be via the Learning Support Coordinator to validate you application
