Adults Multi-Agency Procedures & Guidance

Introduction

This information combines the "Multi-Agency Code of Practice for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults from Abuse" with guidance for alerters to assist in the identification and reporting of abuse.

It is important to remember that as an alerter you are not asked to prove that information about abuse or suspected abuse is true.

You are asked to log your concerns or disclosures made to you and then report them to Social Services, Health or your local Police Victim Centred Crime Unit.  The Police have the responsibility of establishing whether or not a criminal offence has been committed.

The alerter's role, that is, having an awareness of adult abuse and the reporting concerns/disclosures to the appropriate statutory agency is key to protecting vulnerable adults from abuse.
