Independent Living Centre Training
The Independent Living Centre is now responsible for providing training in assessing for and fitting of CES equipment for all Health and Adult and Social Care staff in the Exeter, East Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge, North, West and Mid Devon areas.
The courses are planned according to the training needs identified by Health and Adult and Social Care Managers.

1. Assessment For and Fitting of Equipment for Independence Training or knowledge of 'Fair Access to Care' eligibility criteria and CES prescriber training/awareness would be helpful before attending this course. |
Course aimed at: "Any staff from Devon ACS, NHS or related services who are involved in assessment and provision of equipment from the Community Equipment Store." | Course Duration: One full day 9 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. |
2. CES Equipment Prescriber Updates Catalogue changes and relevant updates for those staff from ACS and NHS involved in assessment for and fitting of equipment for independence Previous attendance at ILC Assessment For and Fitting of Equipment course preferable. |
Course aimed at: "Staff from ACS, NHS or related services who are actively involved in assessment for and provision of equipment for indepence". | Course Duration: 1 half day for partial catalogue update. |
| 3. Introduction to Seating & Posture | Course aimed at: Devon Equipment Prescribers involved in seating provision. | Course Duration 1 half day |

Travel / Parking: Details are sent out when you book. Directions and a Map to the ILC is also available on the ILC website: www.devon.gov.uk/ilc. The ILC has a large, free car park and is wheelchair accessible to the building.
Course Numbers: As these are practical courses, numbers on pre-booked courses are limited to a maximum of 15 per session.
Please let us know of you have any special requirements, eg loop system, access etc.

1. Assessment For and Fitting of Equipment for Independence:
Staff completing this course will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- The current range of Equipment for Independence from the Community Equipment Service (CES) and Retail Model Tariff that could meet client need.
- Safe use of equipment.
- Accessing the equipment needs of clients.
- Choosing relevant equipment to meet an individual's identified need.
- Fitting and adjusting CES equipment safely (within the ILC environment).
- Environmental factors/limitations or risks related to CES equipment.
- The availability of specialist assessment and how to access these.
- Confidence to seek a second opinion where necessary.

2. CES Equipment Prescriber Updates:
Staff completing this course will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Overview of the current range of Equipment for Independence from the CES and Retail Model Tariff that could meet client need.
- Safe use of any new equipment.
- New equipment in CES store to meet an individual's identified need.
- Fitting and adjusting new equipment in CES store (within the ILC environment).
- Environmental factors/limitations or risks related to any new CES equipment.

3 Introduction to Seating and Posture
Staff completing this course will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- · Factors to consider when assessing for seating and posture.
- · The current range of equipment from Retail Model Tariff and Community equipment Service available to improve posture, comfort and independent transfers.
- · Fitting and adjusting equipment safely (within the training environment).
- · Environmental factors/limitations or risks related to equipment
- · Alternative equipment that may meet client need.
- ·Awareness of when and how to refer on for a specialist assessment
