Charges & Benefits

Home Care

In partnership with the Department for Work & Pensions and the Citizens Advice Bureaux, Devon Social Services has introduced charges for services which will be based on an assessment of your ability to pay.

An Officer from our Finance and Benefits Team (FAB) will arrange a suitable time to visit you at home or at a day centre, to complete your financial assessment. Do not worry about this because, if you prefer, you can nominate a relative or friend to help you. Before the appointment, your Care Manager will let you know which documents they will need to see (such as your Benefit books, and Building Society and Bank books).

The person who visits you will ensure that you are receiving all the benefits that you are entitled to. If you are eligible to claim an extra benefit they will help you complete the necessary forms and send in the application for you. If your claim is successful we may need to recalculate your weekly charge.

Many people who receive income support (pension credit) will probably find that they won't have to pay a charge for their home care.

For details of how much you will need to pay please see the Charges for Home Care, Day Care and Community Meals factsheet. image - PDF icon (86KB - pdf help)

You will be sent an account through the post every four weeks. This will show different ways that you can pay.
