Supporting People (SP) is a programme which pays for housing-related support services. It enables adults who need housing related support to live independently in the community. It is administered by Devon County Council in partnership with the local district councils, the Devon Primary Care Trust and the Devon and Cornwall Probation Service. The Supporting People team and its partners monitor and review the services to ensure that they continue to provide high quality help and value for money for the people who need it.
Innovative support packages provided by different organisations and partnerships throughout Devon allow individual needs to be met.
The housing related support covers a wide range of services,
The support can be short-term (up to two years) with the intention of moving to independent living or long-term (more than two years) where the support is provided continuously while a service user remains in the property.
Floating support allows individuals to receive help wherever they live.
The SP programme supports the following client groups:
- people who have been homeless or rough sleeper
- ex-offenders and people at risk of offending and imprisonment
- people with a physical or sensory disability
- people at risk of domestic violence
- people with alcohol and drug problems
- teenage parents
- elderly people
- young people at risk
- people with HIV and AIDS
- people with learning difficulties
- travellers
- homelessness families with support needs
If you think you are entitled to housing related support, you should contact organisations such as health, social services, local housing departments or housing associations who can refer you to service providers.
National Directory of SP services is an online database of SP services for all groups of vulnerable people. It provides comprehensive information about services and service providers to SP professionals and members of the public. The database is produced by Communities and Local Government (CLG) from information provided by each local authority. Services can be searched by county, client group, type of accommodation required etc.
The Disability Information Service provides information and impartial advice for people with disabilities, their families and carers in Devon.
