The Policy and Planning Team is part of the Strategic Planning and Commissioning Unit which is managed by Jennie Stephens, Assistant Director,  Strategic Planning and Commissioning, ACS.

The team's main roles are:

  • Co-ordinating the publication and reviewing of all the Directorate's policy, procedures and guidance in the Policy Procedures and Guidance Web pages.
  • Supporting the strategic planning for the Directorate through monitoring and analysing national and local, strategic and policy developments.
  • Ensuring that Equalities Legislative requirements are met, throughout the Directorate Equalities Plan
  • Adult Protection
  • Risk Management/Health and Safety.
  • Policy and planning projects that affect  more than one Division of Adult and Community Services. These currently include the following;

How The Strategic Planning and Policy Team Works

The team works in partnership with the lead managers for policy within each Division, and with other teams within Strategic and Corporate Services.

Jeff Walsh also has a dual role working within Devon County Council Corporate Teams in relation to hisr area of responsibility.

Many policy projects are time limited with the aim of agreeing and initiating improvement changes in how things are done in the Directorate, so that responsibility for fully implementing and maintaining these changes can be taken on by the appropriate staff and teams within the Directorate.

All the Directorates new and reviewed policies should:

  • be developed in consultation with key stakeholders including people who use services and their carers, and those who will be responsible for the policies implementation.
  • have implementation and monitoring plans developed in consultation with the Performance Review and Management Information Team.
  • be presented in the format for policies
