What is the Exmouth Day Service?
Exmouth Day Service is intended to offer relief breaks for carers by offering opportunities to encourage daily living skills, independence, social stimulation, hobbies and leisure activities to people with physical and sensory disabilities of a working age.

Who is the service for?
- Adults of a working age with physical and/or sensory disabilities.
The service responds to the ‘Carers Act’ by giving ‘Carers a break’ to support the home environment
What should it achieve?
- Reduce the potential risk of you requiring residential or nursing care.
- Improve your confidence, quality of life and self-esteem.
- Enrich the level and range of experiences in your daily life.
- Provide a focused day for you, which responds to your identified needs.
What can you expect to receive from this service?
- Day respite Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week from 10am to 4pm 50 weeks of the year.
- Specialist equipment for enhancing your capabilities and extending your opportunities wherever possible.
- A warm and welcoming atmosphere, which is positive, non-judgemental and supportive.

- Records are accurately recorded in the appropriate manner and are legible
- Personal details are filed correctly and are locked away when not in use

skills and competencies
Staff employed at Exmouth Day Service have:
- demonstrated their competence, professional skills and experience of working with people with disabilities within their recruitment and selection process
- appropriate skills to build confidence and self esteem and promote equality, diversity and rights at all times
- possess basic knowledge and skills to be able to deal with medical and social conditions
- the ability to assess for risks and hazards according to health, safety and fire regulations
- awareness of Devon County Council policies and procedures
- the capabilities and knowledge to work in partnership with other services and organisations

Training -
All workers undertake statutory and mandatory Devon County Council training including:
- risk assessment
- load management
- first aid
- managing violence and aggression
- disability awareness
- infection control
- food & hygiene
All drivers are competent according to DCC standards and Drivers, Escorts and relief staff undertake training in the use of tail lifts.
N.V.Qs and appraisals -
- All staff undertake assessment of their working competencies through the NVQ process
- Staff appraisals are completed annually to assess performance and provide feedback
customer care:
- You have the opportunity to voice your opinions about the service through our annual customer care survey
- We will support you in a patient, polite and courteous manner and will offer open and honest feedback
- All our information is equally accessible to everybody regardless of peoples race, religion, gender, culture, financial circumstances or sexual preferences, including availability in a range of formats
- Telephone calls and written correspondence to our office will be answered as quickly as possible
- When calls are taken for members of staff who are unavailable, clear messages will be taken and the caller will be informed when they are likely to have their call returned
- Information is readily available explaining how to make a complaint or representation and how this would be dealt with.
