Safeguarding Adults

Safeguarding Adults: Foundation Training

This is a one day course which is aimed at all front line care staff of all agencies working with vulnerable adults.  It is a participative course which helps delegates look at their own values as well as giving them information about how to recognise abuse and what to do should that situation arise.

The course is delivered by a pool of trainers from across the agencies.  They are a very experienced team and feedback is consistently good.

There is a rolling programme at venues all over Devon.  These courses are very popular, and often over subscribed.  It is important therefore that, if you get a place you cannot then take up, that you let the administrator know in good time.

One of the main benefits of this training is that it attracts staff from many different agencies and this can add to an already interesting and stimulating day.

There is no charge for this one day course.  However, there is a fee for late cancellation.  Please see the booking form for details.

The course includes a light lunch.

New Training for Safeguarding Adults and Mental Capacity Act

2009 sees the introduction of a new programme of Safeguarding Adults, Mental Capacity Act and Depravation of Liberty Safeguards training.  Designed to meet the competencies required of the workforce at their level of responsibility, the training will be available to you at no cost through the Devon County Council Workforce Development team.

What will the new training look like?

Basically the new programme will include Safeguarding Adults and Mental Capacity issues within the same training sessions.  There will be three levels and will be matched to NVQ competencies.

Basic Awareness Induction

This is for all staff who work with vulnerable adults and is specifically designed for new members of staff and those who require the basics.  It will take the form of e-learning and will be available on the web.  All you will need to access this will be a password which DCC will provide.  There will be three packages for you to access, Safeguarding Adults, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.  For those of you who are not on the web these will also be available in CD form and a workbook.  It is also intended to develop refresher training using these e-learning packages. This training will be available from Feb 2009

Level 1 Foundation

This one-day training will replace the existing course which will continue until the end of March 2009.  The new Foundation Training will build on the Basic Awareness Induction Training and will incorporate Mental Capacity issues. It will offer more time for group work and give those attending an opportunity for discussion of issues with people from other agencies.

Also in 2009 DCC will be launching ‘Train the Trainer’ sessions for DCT members. These will provide you with the knowledge and materials to deliver Level 1 training in your own workplace and will involve funding in exchange for commitments to attend update training and providing details of staff trained.  More details will be circulated in the New Year.

Level 2 Managers & Investigators

This will be inter-agency training incorporating Mental Capacity issues. It is designed for Registered Managers and other qualified staff who are required to manage and investigate adult abuse cases.  It will be a modular course with one day knowledge input followed by practice based module and further follow up day. This course will cover the safeguarding process and include investigation skills. There will be an input from CSCI and the Police and this will provide you with the knowledge and skills to carry out an investigation. This training should be available from April 2009

How do I book a place?
