Mental Capacity Act Training

All the MCA training is free and available to all Health and Local Authority agencies, private and voluntary sector, service users, families and carers.

Training sessions

The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) traianing sub-group, part of a joint group implementing the MCA across Devon and Torbay, have developed six 3 hour MCA training sets - Core, Mental Health,  Acute Hospital, Residential, Primary and Community Care and Learning Disability.

Training Sets

All people who are likely to be decision makers, or involved in the decision making process, for a person who lacks the capacity to make a particular decision at a particular time must attend one of the six training sets (the one that is most relevant to their role). N.B. Prior to attending an MCA training set all participants must read Making Decisions - Booklet 3 image - PDF icon (469KB - pdf help)

Medical Legal Training

MC Medical Legal training sessions will also be available for for Consultants, Registrars and General Practitioners working in Acute Hospital, Primary and Community Care, Mental Health and Learning Disability Services.

Briefing Sessions

A half hour briefing session on the MCA is also available to groups who require an awareness of the Act but are unlikely to be decision makers, by request via the MCA Admin Office - email Abigail.Wheeler@devonptnrs.nhs.uk or telephone 01392 403454.

If you require a presentation on the mental capacity act, of more tailored training for a specific group (eg service users or carers) please contact Abi wheeler on Abigail.Wheeler@devonptnrs.nhs.uk or on 01392 403454 to discuss your request.

N.B. The training approved by the sub-group must be attended if appropriate to role and cannot be substituted by any external training that you may have attended.
