618g - Teacher Numbers & Teacher Vacancies

Note: This information is required for the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

For completion by Nursery, Primary, Secondary,  Special Schools and Pupil Referral Units.

The 618g is an annual statutory return required by the Department for Education and Skills. It records information on teaching staff employed in school on 17th January 2008. A large part of information required by the DCSF for Primary, Secondary and Special Schools is able to be completed centrally on your behalf from your Personnel information uploaded to EMS. Schools that have not supplied a file will be asked to provide the information manually. The forms below contain only those sections relating to data not held centrally.

All establishments must complete the return (if none of the sections apply to you, you must still complete and return the Cover sheet giving your school details and completion time).

  • The file is in Excel and is in different sections (when you open it you will see various tabs listed along the bottom left-hand side of the screen).
  • If you wish to make an electronic return, ensure you save the file to your SIMS\STAR\ASCout directoryand overtype nnnn in the filename with your school number. (If you’re not sure where to find your ASCout directory, it’ll be on your C: drive if you’ve got a stand alone PC or on F:\Public or G: if you are networked). You can return the file via RMSecureNet Plus using the Pupil Forecast/618g Community.
  • If you wish to make a manual return, print off, complete and return only those sections that are relevant i.e. if you don’t have any teacher vacancies there is no need to return that section. All schools MUST complete and return the Cover sheet. Please ensure that the Cover Sheet and any other sections you return have your four digit DCSF number on.
  • The return date is Friday 1st February 2008.
