Play Builder

play photosAs part of the Government Children’s Plan play commitment Devon County Council has successfully secured £1.1 million from the Play Builder project for the development of at least 22 play areas for 8-13 year olds across the county.

In particular, the DCSF will expect ‘development’ in this context to mean the complete or substantial replacement of old equipment for new or the building of a completely new play area. They are particularly looking for sites that are innovative and attractive to children, particularly 8-13 year olds and which are inclusive for disabled children and minority groups. They are clear that this new play investment is not intended to fund development of school sites

The sites can be a combination of new or refurbished play areas and will be selected through an open proposals process that will aim to ensure long term sustainable change for children’s play.

The DCSF are very clear that they want local communities to be at the heart of delivery through the involvement of community and voluntary groups and through consultation with children, young people and parents.

If you have applied for Play Builder funding and have not been successful, you may want to look into other methods of funding. You can find information about funding from Devon Funding News.

DCC is calling for the expressions of interest for Play Builder.  Play Builder is a DCSF programme intended to fund a minimum of 22 new or substantially refurbished play spaces in Devon.  Each play space should be the result of consultation with communities, parent/carers and children and young people and make a significant difference for opportunities to play.

In the second round we are particularly keen to see bids that will make a significant difference in rural communitie. We welcome applications for schemes costing between £10,000 and £45,000.
