Projects 2009/10
Wider Opportunities in Every Primary School
DMS is currently helping every primary school in Devon to access money towards wider opportunities music making – the chance for every child in KS2 to have a go at playing a musical instrument in a group or singing to a high standard.
The Music Development Leaders visit Learning Communities and help them to plan projects ranging from whole class ukulele bands through to djembe ensembles, brass groups, string groups and choirs.
As each project comes up and running the MDLs help by running class tuition, supporting class teachers to do it themselves or connecting schools with other musicians who can help.
It’s a very exciting time for primary schools and a tremendous amount of music is going on – walk into pretty much any school in Devon and a class set of instruments will be strumming or tooting away! The most exciting thing for us is to tap into the amazing skills which primary teachers have, and to see them running their own instrumental music programmes.
