LDP Music Service Choir Festival
On Friday 19th March, 2010, youth choirs from across Devon will be gathering at The Corn Exchange, Exeter and Exeter Cathedral for the first annual LDP Music Service Choir Festival for young people.
Choirs and Schools Taking Part:
- Ivybridge Specialist Choir
- Bickleigh On Exe Church of England Primary School
- Devon County Junior Choir
- Singing Aloud Tiverton Youth Choir
- Honiton Sing Up Youth Choir + Whimple Choir
- The Castle Primary Choir

This day-long singing festival will showcase a range of talented choirs from across Devon, giving young people the opportunity to perform and to hear their peers performing. The school choirs selected this year have achieved a gold sing up award or are part of the exemplar Sing Up programme. The project is one of the highlights in the Music Service calendar as part of the ‘Tune In - Year of Music’ and celebrates much of the work that has been supported by the Sing Up initiative across the county.
The Devon LDP Music Service hopes that this will become an annual event aimed at raising aspirations in singing by showcasing the quality of vocal work across the county.
For the first festival the Music Service has secured Dave Camlin, a high level vocal practitioner, to provide a workshop and professional guidance on the day. He will be working on warm up exercises and technique as well as teaching the students and choir leaders vocal arrangements of some contemporary songs.
This will be followed by a collaborative performance in the stunning surroundings of Exeter Cathedral from 2pm, where the choirs will also share some of their own repertoire
Ken Parr of the LDP Music Service said, "This is a really exciting initiative and I hope that this choir festival will become another highlight in the calendar for schools where children and young people can share experiences and celebrate their achievements. The launch of the choir festival represents yet another opportunity to engage in high quality music making and will help to continually raise standards in singing across Devon. I would particularly like to thank Bernie Artuso and Sing Up for support in establishing the festival."
