The ScoMIS unit has developed as an in-house provider of ICT services over a number of years primarily in response to government initiatives such as (a) the Local Management of Schools where the initial introduction of ICT in support of school administration was supported by substantial Education Support Grant funding. At that point in time there was no obvious commercial provider of these services and hence DCC started the support team from scratch.
ScoMIS exists:
- to support managers and staff, in all parts of the Directorate, by the provision of management information and affordable ICT-based Information Systems and infrastructure
- to provide comprehensive advice, training and support in the use of IT management systems for schools and other service subscribers by the provision of consultancy visits, locally based training, a central Helpline and on-site support where necessary to enable them to achieve their "business" objectives.
