As part of the on going requirement for DCCS to ensure it is clear in its aims and objectives we, along with all other parts of the County Council, produce a business plan outlining our current position and our intentions for the future. Below is a business statement, which contains the key elements of the business plan and is intended to provide an understanding of how DCCS operates now and how it intends to develop.
Our Current Position
We employ approximately 1,700 staff, 98% of which work directly in the schools, colleges and other establishments that we serve. The remainder are office based and area staff located either at our headquarters at Sowton, Exeter or our area office in Barnstaple.
These staff consist of management and support services staff providing backup in areas which include administration, finance, personnel, marketing, health & safety, quality management and I.T.
Our Catering Division provides services on 385 school sites, 43 of which are part of Torbay Council. DCCS was successful in winning a five year contract with Torbay and provide catering services to their Primary and Special Schools as well as individual agreements with nearly all Torbay Secondary Schools. The remaining 342 sites are located throughout the remainder of Devon (with the exception of Plymouth) with again individual contracts being agreed between Secondary Schools/Colleges and DCCS.
Our Cleaning Division provides services in nearly 250 Primary and 9 Secondary Schools as well as a major College. We also provide services to the NHS and carry out specialist work at the request of other Authorities. Most contracts are agreed on an individual basis between DCCS and customers because each site is unique and the service we provide is tailored to suit each individual establishment.
Our Plans for the Future
Also included in the Business Plan are a whole host of targets each section of DCCS sets itself to further improve the service we are able to offer. To list them all would be prohibitive but the main themes include:
