Outline of Work

Context:

The service provider will offer a comprehensive range of support, information, advice and training to all Devon’s school governors, headteachers and clerks to governing bodies. Professional colleagues and Elected Members are also able to call on the service as required.

Services to be Provided:

Free of charge to all governing bodies:

• Statutory functions in relation to:-
  • Ensuring all governing bodies have an Instrument of Government
  • Setting up of temporary governing bodies as required
  • Setting up and advising on Federated governing bodies
  • Advice and guidance on election and support of Parent Governor Representatives on Local Authority Committees.
  • Appointment of Local Authority governors.
• Information and welcome pack for all new governors and all new clerks.
• Access to telephone and email helplines for information on:-
  • Statutory duties and powers
  • Structures of governing bodies
  • Appointments of Local Authority governors
  • Instruments of Government
• Access to Governor Services website
• Samples of recruitment literature
• Resources available from public libraries

Subscription Service:

• Regular information updates for all governors and clerks.
• Individual and confidential access to telephone and email helplines on all governance topics and related issues.
• Free participation in a range of training events.
• Access to in-house training provision.
• Access to cluster training events.
• Membership of the Devon Governors Association and the NGA.

Pay As You Use Service:

• Attendance at training events
